According to manager Alex Morrison, WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns (36-2-1, 11KOs) will meet rival Ray Beltran (28-6-1, 17KOs) for a second time on a date in early February in Glasgow, Scotland. Ricky Burns returned home on Monday after surgery to mend a broken jaw sustained in Saturday night's controversial WBO lightweight title fight against Raymundo Beltran, according to the champion's promoter Eddie Hearn. The Coatbridge fighter, 30, suffered a clean break in the second round against the Mexican at the SECC in Glasgow but despite being on the back foot for much of the night he retained his belt when the judges awarded a draw. Hearn subsequently claimed that Burns, who had titanium plates inserted in his jaw, faced a battle to recover sufficiently to box again.

Ricky Burns retained his WBO lightweight title after a draw with Raymundo Beltran in Glasgow on Saturday. The Scot suffered a dislocated jaw in the second round and had to get up from a knockdown in the eighth in his defence against the tough Mexican. One judge awarded the fight 115-112 to Burns. Another made Beltran a 115-113 winner and the third saw it 114-114. But even the partisan home crowd could scarcely seem to believe the result in a fight that Beltran seemed to dominate throughout. The 30-year-old champion was making the fourth defence of the title he won at the end of 2011 by beating Australian Michael Katsidis on points. The 32-year-old Mexican's record moved to 28 wins, six defeats and one draw. Burns, a former WBO super-featherweight champion, now stands at 36-3-1.

The champion showed the heart of a lion after suffering a broken jaw in the second round which promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed required surgery on Sunday. However, it looked to most in the arena that the challenger, who had Burns on the floor in the eighth round, had clearly won the fight but one judge gave the Scot the verdict by 115-112, another gave it to Beltran by 115-113 with the third judge scoring it 114-114.

GLASGOW, Scotland - WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns has had surgery after breaking his jaw in Saturday's draw with challenger Raymundo Beltran. Burns confirmed his injury on Twitter, with promoter Eddie Hearn adding Sunday on the social networking site that "Ricky is now in surgery to have a titanium plate in his jaw." He fought with the injury for ten rounds and was floored in the eighth round on Saturday. However, Burns managed to secure a draw - to his surprise and that of his hometown fans in Glasgow - and retain his title after the third judge scored the fight 114-114.
