For many, the defining moment in the career of Andre Ward came in 2016, against Sergey Kovalev, with Ward cementing his legacy by rising off the canvas to outpoint the feared Russian puncher in their first fight. Ward recalls his thoughts at the time, as Kovalev prepares to return May 18 in Saudi Arabia against Robin Safar.

With probably the most talked-about fight in British boxing history now just a matter of hours away, there is still no consensus within the business on who is going to prevail out of Carl Froch and George Groves – or how the fight will end. Current and former pros are effectively split down the middle, with many arguing for Froch, and just as many siding with Groves. Nor is there general agreement about how the fight will reach a conclusion. It could be a first round stoppage either way, or it could be a points verdict to either man. Each of those four scenarios has advocates from within the game. Froch, as has been his way during the build-up to Saturday’s epic, has said little, other than an oft-repeated assertion that Groves will not hear the final bell. Beyond his contractual obligations, Froch has offered virtually nothing to outsiders, pulling up the drawbridge to focus on a Spartan training camp.

In a final IBF super middleweight eliminator, Olympic gold medal winner James DeGale (19-1, 13KOs) picked up a premature four round stoppage of previously undefeated Brandon Gonzales (18-1-1, 10KOs). DeGale started off fast and was landing good punches. Gonzales came back in the second with hard shots to the body. The third was even, but DeGale exploded in the fourth. He landed a fury of shots to send Gonzales down. Gonzales was back on his feet, trying to survive the round while DeGale was trying to finish. The referee jumped in and waved off the fight as Gonzales jumped back from a DeGale combination.

Former James DeGale (18-1, 12KOs) opponent Dyah Davis believes Brandon Gonzales (18-0-1, 10KOs) could produce an upset Saturday night at Wembley Stadium. California-based Gonzales has travelled to DeGale's hometown for this IBF eliminator which could see the victor face either Carl Froch or George Groves.
