The World Boxing Council officially announces today that the proposed fight between the WBC heavyweight world champion Oleg Maskaev and former WBC world champion and current WBC Champion Emeritus Vitali Klitschko will not take place at this time as the representatives of Maskaev, Klitschko and Samuel Peter did not reach an agreement to that effect.

As has been widely reported, both Samuel Peter and Vitali Klitschko have claimed certain rights and privileges in contradiction of the claims of the other to be the next challenger for the WBC world heavyweight championship, while the reigning champion, Oleg Maskaev, has requested to fight Vitali Klitschko first.

The World Boxing Council is requesting today the voting of its Board of Governors to strip world champion Francisco Javier Castillejo of the title for refusing to comply with his mandatory defense against WBC official challenger Ricardo Mayorga, and signing instead to fight Fernando Vargas, despite the fact that he had already been officially advised and he had accepted such defense in writing.
