Knockout artist Deontay Wilder once again dazzled us with his power as it only took him a couple minutes to dispose of Sergi Liakhovich in their bout this past Friday night on Shobox’s main event from Indio, CA. Wilder improved both his win and knockout count to 29 as nobody has been able to handle his punching power for more than 4 rounds.
The power is undeniably real but fans are ready for Wilder to step into the ring with a big name and test himself. BoxingScene’s Rick Reeno reported a few days ago that Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer is interested in matching Wilder with the winner of the Chris Arreola-Seth Mitchell showdown taking place on September 6th.
BoxingScene asked Wilder what he thought about the possibility of facing either fighter.
“Whichever one of those guys wins, I'll be ready. I'm ready now. So I think it'll be a great fight between the both of them because both of them have similar styles. Chris Arreola may seem the more aggressive guy but Seth's got a big heart. So it’s going to be a great fight and I'm looking forward to fighting either one of them. I'm going to be ready but their style is tailor made for my style though” Wilder would tell BoxingScene.
The Heavyweight division went from being boxing’s most glamorous division to now its red headed step child as it simply is nothing like it used to be in terms of talent and fights being produced. Wilder has brought some interest back to the division and he feels a fight with him and the winner of Arreola-Mitchell will definitely create some excitement.
“Whoever wins I hope they are ready and I think it’s going to be a great fight and I think that'll be one step closer to making the Heavyweight division more exciting again as far being over here in the United States. Either or, that's going to be a fight the Americans are going to want to see because those are two of the names being called out by the fans that they want to see me fight and I think a lot of people would tune in” said the 2008 bronze medalist.
A potential fight with Wilder and the winner of Arreola-Mitchell is indeed enticing and is a fight fans would get excited for. In fact, Wilder himself is excited about the possibility of facing one of them and feels whoever wants a piece of him will win this fight to get that opportunity.
“That would be a great fight so may the best man win in that competition. I feel like whoever really wants to fight me, they're going to try their hardest to beat the other to fight me. And the one who really don't want to win is going to let the other guy have his way with him and watch the other guy fight me. It feels like a tournament man! I'm excited!” said Wilder with a smile.
Arreola and Mitchell will fight in the same venue where Wilder just scored his latest crushing knockout. Wilder assures he’s ready to step up and get in the ring with whoever they put in front of him.
