Heavyweight banger Chris Arreola hurt Seth Mitchell, known for his chin issues, with his first landed power punch.

Some guys just ain’t got it. In the case of Seth Mitchell, ‘it’ would be punch resistance. Chin. Beard. Whiskers. He’s got the heart to get up and keep trying. He’s proven in four straight fights to be a man in the ring. He just isn’t a very good Heavyweight fighter. Chris Arreola has never been any great shakes but he has pro chops. And he chopped right through Mitchell as expected Saturday night in but a single round. Let’s go to the report card.

Luis Sandoval catches up heavyweight contender Chris Arreola to discuss his sensational first round stoppage of Seth Micthell.

By Luis Sandoval - For the second time in a month’s span, a Heavyweight bout hosted at the Fantasy Springs Casino ended in the very first round as Chris Arreola (35-3, 31KOs) put himself back in the win column with a quick and vicious victory over Seth Mitchell (26-2-1, 19KOs). It only took 2 minutes and 26 seconds for Arreola to make good on his promise that he would knock Mitchell out as he has now positioned himself to land a big fight again. In the week leading up to the bout, both fighters had said their contest would not go the distance and would end early. They were both correct but it was Arreola who inflicted the damaging blows while Mitchell was the one on the receiving end. Ironically it was Mitchell who would strike first in the fight as he hit Arreola with a quick one-two punch in the opening seconds. Arreola brushed off the combination and began hounding Mitchell around the ring looking to land his own attack. The first right hand Arreola threw that connected immediately discombobulated Mitchell as his legs turned to jelly and he held on for dear life. Arreola did his best to try to free himself from the clinch and continue his attack but Mitchell held on tight as Arreola would throw Mitchell to the floor to finally free himself. It wasn’t a knockdown by any means but it wouldn’t be the last time Mitchell would end up on the canvas.

In a battle of Al Haymon managed heavyweights, Chris "The Nightmare" Arreola (36-3, 31KOs) destroyed Seth "Mayhem" Mitchell (26-2-1, 19KOs) in the first round to capture the WBC International and NABO heavyweight titles. Arreola rocked Mitchell bad with the first hard right hand in the second minute of the first. He held on for dear life and was thrown down by Arreola and it wasn't scored a knockdown. Arreola landed a few more hard shots to drop Mitchell down hard - and this time it was counted as a knockdown. Once Mitchell beat the count, Arreola started unloading - and Mitchell wasn't punching back, and the referee jumped in to stop the action.

Both heavyweights throw and land similar numbers. Chris Arreola needs to box - establish jab, like Banks did in his first fight with Seth Mitchell. We know Mitchell's suspect chin. Arreola's chin was dented by Stiverne. It could come down to who lands the first big shot.

Heavyweight contender Chris Arreola does talk a lot of smack before a fight. That should come as no surprise to anyone who is involved in boxing. While fight fans may get a kick out of the colorful language that come out of Arreola’s mouth, he has been able to mostly back it up most of the time. Arreola will never be at a loss for words. In fact, the day when Arreola may not have anything colorful to say could be the day when fight fans may not see him in the ring. According to Arreola, that will not be the case, as he is eager to make a statement in his upcoming bout and fulfill his goal of becoming a world champion. Arreola will take on Seth Mitchell in a scheduled 12 round heavyweight bout at the Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, CA.

No matter how meager the division is in present state, the old mantra holds true – anytime you have a chance to make a good heavyweight matchup, you go ahead and do it. That leads us to Chris Arreola and Seth Mitchell squaring off tonight at the Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, California. The Showtime-televised headliner pits two heavyweights in need of a big win to return to relevance in what still remains a wide open division beyond the top two spots. Mitchell reversed the lone loss of his career, overcoming a knockout at the hands of Johnathon Banks to soundly outpoint the Detroit-based boxer this past June. Yet the win hardly sat well with boxing fans, who were utterly bored with the lack of action and who remain unconvinced that the former college football linebacker has what it takes to make a run in the heavyweight sweepstakes.

American heavyweight contender Seth Mitchell (26-1-1, 19 KOs) is getting ready for his return to the ring which will take place on September 7th at Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, California. The 31-year old “Mayhem” will face former WBC challenger Cristobal Arreola (35-3, 30 KO). The bout is scheduled for 12 rounds with the WBC International and WBO NABO heavyweight titles at the stake. Mitchell is coming back to the ring after his unanimous decision victory over Johnathon Banks (29-2-1, 19 KOs) in June.

This time, Chris Arreola swears he’s ready to take his career seriously. Sheepishly grin all you want, but there’s something to the Californian’s claim of putting past demons behind him that makes this weekend’s showdown with Seth Mitchell more than just a matchup of Al Haymon-advised heavyweights gaining TV team. The two fringe contender will square off at the Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, Calif., with Showtime to televise the crossroads bout. “This is a must-win fight,” Arreola acknowledges, even if stating the obvious. "I respect his conditioning and his determination to be somebody. Mitchell was a good football player, but I've been in this game too long to lose to somebody like that. If I lose to some guy like Seth Mitchell I would seriously contemplate retirement.
