Brooklyn, New York - Sergio Mora (28-3-2, 9 KO’s) is no stranger to going on the road for a big fight. This Saturday he enters his opponent’s hometown as he takes on Brooklyn’s Danny Jacobs at the Barclays Center on ESPN. Fighting on the road actually is less stress on Mora and feels the pressure is all on Jacobs.
“I’m glad I’m going in to someone else’s backyard,” Mora told BoxingScene.com. “When I fought at the Staples Center against Peter Manfredo and Shane Mosley, it’s a lot going on, you got to worry about tickets, worry about the celebrities you invited, and you worry about everything but the fight. He’s going to realize real quick fighting in his hometown, even if he’s not thinking about It., it’ll affect him someone.”
Even though he is fighting in his opponent’s backyard, Mora feels the officiating in New York will be fair.
“I’m ok with fighting in New York, It’s not a politically corrupt state like Texas,” Mora said. “If I was in Texas, I wouldn’t be giving this interview or even fighting here.”
Mora was scheduled to fight for a middleweight world title earlier this year against Jermain Taylor. Due to Taylor’s mental and legal issues, he was stripped by the IBF. Mora missed out on his shot. Mora now has a shot to win one of the WBA versions of its Middleweight titles against Jacobs. No letdowns for Mora as he says he’ll seize his opportunity.
“I had a title shot before Jermain Taylor with Kelly Pavlik, a week before he cancelled it. Now it was 10 days before a fight Jermain Taylor was cancelled but things happen with him and that gets cancelled. Two let downs in big world title fights. Now I got my third opportunity, I’m going to seize the moment, seize the moment to beat someone that’s 9-1 odds against me.
