New York, New York-Not many people were aware that Peter Quillin (32-0-1, 23 KO's) worked with strength and conditioning coach. Angel ‘Memo’ Heredia for his last fight. So when he appeared at the kick off press conference for Quillin’s fight with Danny Jacobs(30-1, 27 KO's), Heredia let it be known that he was tabbed to be involved in a bigger capacity for this camp.
“It’s gone very good,” Heredia told BoxingScene.com. “We’re heading back to Miami tomorrow. It’s the 1st week, we started Monday, and we still got time. He looks good, he’s not overweight so it’s just fine tuning and getting him stronger for this fight with Jacobs.”
Heredia helped Quillin make the 160 pound limit for his bout with Michael Zerafa, months after he missed weight in his bout with Andy Lee in April of this year. Heredia feels his training will have Quillin at his peak come December 5th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
“We helped him make weight for his last fight, [we] only [worked] on his weight and supplements,” stated Heredia. “I told him we’d like to work with him for this fight in a full camp, especially because Danny Jacobs is a good fighter and it’s for a world title. So you always got to have the best and the best position for the fight.”
He feels his knowledge in making weight properly will also make the difference.
“You have to know what you doing, my best friend is science. You can’t just sit down and try to go the old way and dehydrate yourself because of blood clots and quick force knockouts. So we’ve been making sure they don’t feel weak when it comes to fight night.”
