Former WBO middleweight champion Peter Quillin (32-0-1, 23KOs) is getting mentally prepared for his Brooklyn battle with WBA 'regular' champion Danny Jacobs (30-1, 27KOs) on December 5th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Showtime will televise.
Prior to that bout, there are two other significant middleweight title fights. On October 17th at New York's Madison Square Garden, Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin will stake his IBO/WBA super world titles against IBF champion David Lemieux in a unification bout. And then on November 21, Miguel Cotto will defend his WBC middleweight title against Saul "Canelo" Alvarez at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.
"I’ll take Gennady Golovkin only because he hasn’t lost. Cotto vs. Canelo is definitely a good fight, I think Canelo is just a little bit savvier at the prime of his career, so I look for him to be the winner over Cotto," Quillin told On The Ropes Boxing Radio .
Quillin says he wants to face both Cotto and Golovkin in the future. With Quillin being a Premier Boxing Champions fighter, it's unlikely he'll be in the ring with Golovkin on HBO. Cotto is a free agent and not bound to any network, so a fight with Quillin could be possible. They would all have to win before anything can be explored. Everything is up in the air until the three fights shake out.
"Yes of course, those are the fights that are ahead of me, the only two fighters that are ranked before me. That’s always on the horizon, I just have to keep building my name and working to be the best and hopefully those fights will happen and come to the limelight of boxing," Quillin said.
