One of the tasks for Lucas Matthysse to take care of on Saturday night will be the difference in height between himself and Viktor Postol. The Ukrainian stands at approximately 5ft 11 to Matthysse’s 5ft 6 1/2, yet the Argentine has faced this supposed disadvantage before against John Molina.
“I’ve seen all his fights that are on the internet,” Lucas told BoxingScene.com in reference to Postol.
“He is very tall for the weight class. From what I can see he looks a normal fighter.
“He’s going to try to keep me at distance because he’s tall and rangy but he’s going to feel the power of my punches.”
Matthysse is one of Golden Boy Promotions’ star names and along with Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez, is involved in one of their more crucial fights in the latter half of 2015.
“I think he and I are maybe the most important fighters in Golden Boy and that does make me happy,” Matthysse added.
Reflecting back on his last fight, a majority decision win over Ruslan Provodnikov in April, Matthysse’s trainer insisted that he always knew his charge could be the smarter boxer in the bout.
“It was a very tough fight,” Luis ‘Cuty’ Barrera conceded.
“Lucas showed what I always said to all the journalists, that there’s no limits to what he can do. He fought very intelligently in the ring, with lots of skill.
“It’s great for a trainer because it shows he’s doing everything correctly and listening to what we say in the corner.”
