On October 3rd, super lightweight contender Lucas Matthysse (37-3) will return to the ring to face undefeated Ukrainian rival Viktor Postol (27-0) at the StubHub Center in Carson, Calif. The fight will be televised by HBO.
The soon to be 33-year-old Argentine said that he is in great shape for the upcoming clash.
"We had a great camp. I had really good sparring which makes me very confident for the fight," Matthysse said.
At stake will be the WBC super lightweight title that Danny Garcia vacated when he officially moved up to the welterweight division.
For all of his accomplishments, Matthysse has never been crowned a world champion. He lost to Garcia when the Philadelphia based fighter defended his WBC and WBA titles against him on the Floyd Mayweather-Saul Alvarez undercard in September 2013.
It should be noted that Matthysse blew out then IBF champion Lamont Peterson in three rounds in 2013, in a fight contested at 141 pounds, one pound over the super lightweight limit and thus the belt wasn't at stake.
Matthysse is very excited to be finally be getting another opportunity to fight for a belt.
"I am very happy to be fighting for a title. I am very grateful to finally get this opportunity and I am going to give everything I have on October 3rd," said Matthysse.
In his last ring appearance, Matthysse edged out Ruslan Provodnikov in a leading "Fight of the Year" candidate. Matthysse said he feels no pressure to try to top that performance.
"No I don't feel any pressure. I am happy that many people think that is one of the best fights of the year. Ultimately the fans will be the ones to decide how good this fight is. I am going to come prepared to win a title," Matthysse told BoxingScene.com.
