Despite his fearsome reputation and solid resume', Lucas Matthysse has actually never held a major belt at 140 pounds. He will try to eradicate that on October 3rd at the StubHub Center in Carson, California, when he faces Victor Postol for the vacant WBC super lightweight title as the main event on HBO's 'Boxing After Dark'.
"I'm very, very delighted to be fighting for a world title against Victor Postol and also to be sharing, on the same card, fighters like Humberto 'Zurrita' Soto and Antonio Orozco,"said the 37-3 (34 KO's) Matthysse, through Robert Diaz of Golden Boy Promotions.
"I saw Postol fight, he gave a very good fight with Selcuk Aydin," continued Matthysse, later on at the press conference at the Belasco Theater in Los Angeles on Thursday afternoon."He impressed me, he is a good fighter. He's got a long reach, very tall. He's very good."
Matthysse has become a fan-favorite in recent years with his hard-hitting style.
Eric Gomez, the V.P. of Golden Boy Promotions stated - "Lucas has become one of the top fighters. He's a combination of boxing and power. He's never in a dull fight. He always put up really, really good fights. He's fought the best in the world, all the big names. Lost a very, very close fight to Danny Garcia which was a very good fight. He's looking to become a world champion and defend the title and move onto bigger and better things.'
On this day he was presented with this 2014 Fight of the Year trophy for his battle against John Molina which took place last April, which coincidentally was held at the same venue he is going back to.
"I'll see you guys October 3rd, expect a great fight," said Matthysse to the gathered audience."I'm excited to be back in Carson. We'll see you there."
