Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin, the holder of both the WBA, IBO and IBF middleweight belts, takes care of his IBF mandatory this Saturday night from the Forum in Inglewood, California, against the relatively unknown Dominic Wade (18-0, 12KOs).
The undefeated 'Triple G '(34-0, 31 KO's) admits to not knowing a whole lot about his upcoming opponent.
"I don't know a lot," said Golovkin, a few weeks ago after his days training in Big Bear, California at the Summit Gym.
"First of all, he's a very important fight for me. Every fight for me is very important. He's mandatory challenger, he's undefeated, he's good prospect. I understand he's not easy fight for me. I'm ready for anybody. My focus right now is Dominick Wade. I'm ready for anything."
For Golovkin, a loss would be disastrous. And because of that he says he has the same level of focus and determination as he did coming into his last bout, which was a unification tilt against David Lemieux back in October.
A win would put him in position for the winner of next month's bout between Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez and Amir Khan. Golovkin is the mandatory challenger to Canelo's WBC title. There is also the possibility of a unification with WBO champion Billy Joe Saunders in the UK.
"Yes, of course, every fight is very important for me. I hope this is my first step and my second step is much bigger. I want a unification fight, maybe Saunders or Canelo," stated Golovkin, who's bout this weekend will be televised by HBO.
