WBA/IBO middleweight titlist, Gennady Golovkin, who faces Martin Murray in Monaco on February 21st, has been one of the busiest boxers in recent years. Since 2012 he has fought nine times, which is extremely active by today's standards where most championship-level boxers perform on average about twice a year. And you can expect that work rate to continue in 2015.
Tom Loeffler, the managing director of K2 Promotions, has made it clear that in this upcoming year that 'GGG' will have up to four bouts scheduled for him. Last year, if it wasn't for the untimely death of his father in February (which scuttled an April bout versus Andy Lee) he would have had four outings in 2014. In 2013 he boxed four times.
Which is just fine by Golovkin, who said on Wednesday afternoon at the Palm Restaurant in Downtown Los Angeles - "Yeah, I hope so. First fight February. Second fight, May. Tom, he has plans, big plans. I'm ready for his plan."
And don't look for the 32 year old Golovkin to walk off into the sunset anytime soon. Despite a record of 31-0(28 KO's) he feels as as though he's just getting started. When asked how much longer he wanted to continue boxing, he replied - "I don't now, maybe five to seven years because I feel great."
