When the fight was first made, IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (36-0, 25KOs) told anyone and everyone that he was a natural middleweight who was killing himself to make his division limit of 147-pounds.
Very few believed him and felt he was simply trying to downplay the label of a mismatch.
Brook is moving up by thirteen pounds to fight IBF/WBC/WBA/IBO middleweight world champion Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin (35-0, 32KOs), this coming Saturday night at the O2 Arena in London.
When the fights took part in the WBC's 30 day weight check - many people were shocked when Brook weighed in at 176-pounds and Golovkin was only 165. When the boxer stepped on the scale for last week's 7 day weight check, Golovkin was 162.9-pounds, and Brook was 167.8.
Brook was not overweight or out of shape. He appeared to be in top form with additional mass. He says the added poundage is not from eating his way up or working out to pack on muscle. He maintains that he's actually coming down in weight to make the middleweight limit of 160.
More shocks are ahead says Brook. He says his physical size and muscled form will stun everyone at the weighin on Friday and on fight night.
"You can read what you want into that. You've seen me at the scale [at the 30 day weight check] and I was at the limit. And you can see my abs, I was in great shape. It just shows and proves that I'm coming down to make middleweight. I'm coming down. And people are going to be in for a big shock when we're standing [side by side] with each other on weighin day and on fight day - the size of me. I've not boxed at middleweight in a fight, but I know that it's gonna be a natural move for me," Brook told BoxingScene.com's Declan Taylor.
