Andre Ward Gives His Opinion on Gennady Golovkin

By Robert Morales

Yes, that was super middleweight champion Andre Ward who was aguest commentator on last Saturday's HBO telecast from Madison Square Garden. Ward, who is recovering from right-shoulder surgery, was on hand at Wednesday's news conference as he and Arreola are Goossen Tutor Promotions stablemates.

Ward was asked what he thought about WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin, who defended his belts with a seventh-round TKO of Gabriel Rosado.

"Golovkin is a strong kid," Ward said. "Physically, he looks like he hits pretty hard, he's got some heavy hands. He looks like he's getting a push from media and fans. I think he's got potential, but I think he's got work to do. He's gotta beat some upper-echelon guys.

"Right now it doesn't look like those guys want to fight him, so it's not his fault. But I definitely feel like that could be a big fight (between he and Golovkin) down the road."

Golovkin and his trainer, Abel Sanchez, have said they will take on anyone from junior middleweight to super middleweight.

Golovkin's management may talk big but they had better keep him away from Ward. Bad style match up. Ward would tear him to shreds. Golovkin is not a bigger version of Kostya Tzu, another solid puncher who could handle slick…

I don't know if 3G is that good either...you can tell he will have trouble with slick boxers like Ward. I think it would be a good fight tho...cuz Ward likes to bang but Golovkin needs to work on defense...
