Bolton star Amir Khan (31-4, 19 KOs) is gunning to secure a rematch with Lamont Peterson (35-3-1, 17 KOs), who currently holds the WBA's "regular" welterweight title.

Peterson won what some felt was a controversial twelve round split decision over Khan in December of 2011. The scores were 115-110 Khan, and 113-112, 113-112 for Peterson in a WBC, IBF junior welterweight fight.

Khan has been out of the ring since last May, when he moved up to a catch-weight of 155-pounds to challenge than WBC middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez. Khan started fast, but suffered a brutal one-punch knockout loss in the sixth round.

After that fight, he had surgery on his right hand and that kept him out of the ring for the remainder of the year.

Khan's plan is to take a fight in the fall and then he wants face Peterson in a rematch.

They were actually scheduled to have a rematch back in 2012, but the fight was canceled when Peterson failed a pre-fight drug test. Peterson was replaced by Danny Garcia, who knocked Khan out in four rounds.

Peterson also fought Garcia, in 2015, and lost a close majority decision.

Peterson has been out of the ring since winning the WBA title with a twelve round unanimous decision over David Avanesyan in February.

“I want to fight end of November, or early December. After my first fight back, I’d love to go into a fight with Lamont Peterson because he’s got the WBA title. That would be a world title fight and it would be good for me to avenge that loss against him," Khan said.

The fight should not be very difficult to make. Both boxers are advised by Al Haymon and promoted under the Premier Boxing Champions banner.
