Two years ago today, Alejandro Perez was two days removed from losing a one-sided 10 round unanimous decision to Diego Magdaleno. Perez went from a bright prospect to what some may consider being a gatekeeper between the featherweight and super featherweight divisions in a span of six fights. Aside from the defeat to Magdaleno, Perez also had loses to Adolfo Landeros and Rico Ramos. What a difference these two years makes. Super featherweight Alejandro Perez knocked Edgar Riovalle out in the seventh round of a scheduled 10 round bout before an overflow crowd at the Hollywood Park Casino in Inglewood, CA. Perez (18-3-1, 12 KOs) was in control during most of the action, beating Riovalle to the punch. Riovalle (35-15-2, 25 KOs) had a few moments, landing an occasional hook or cross to the head of Perez. However, Perez began to dig to the body more consistently midway through the fight. In the seventh round, a well-placed left hook to the body dropped Riovalle to the canvas. Riovalle struggled to get up as referee Dr. Lou Moret counted him out at 1:14.
