Desperate to stop a two-fight losing streak, 29-year old Jr. Welterweight Hank Lundy (23-3-1, 11 KO) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, came up with perhaps the best performance of his career in scoring a unanimous decision over ten rounds against 33-year old Nigerian Ajose Olusegun (31-2, 14 KO) on Friday night at the Rockingham Park in Salem, New Hampshire. Lundy came into the bout just under the division limit at 139 ¾ while Olusegun tipped the scales at the 140 lb. limit. The referee was Steve Smoger. In the first couple of rounds, it was the quicker and busier hands of Lundy telling the tale. Able to find the Nigerian southpaw with the jab, Lundy was set to multiply contact while Olusegun sought a big shot to get into the bout. A big shot drove Olusegun towards the ropes late in the third to further Lundy’s early momentum, though Olusegun didn’t seem hurt.
Hank Lundy knows his career cannot withstand a third straight defeat Friday night. The prideful fighter from Philadelphia must beat Ajose Olusegun in their ESPN2 “Friday Night Fights” main event in Salem, N.H., if he is to have any shot at rejuvenating his career and fighting for a junior welterweight world title. “It’s a do-or-die fight and I’m letting everything hang out on Friday,” Lundy said. “I’m going to come in there and put on a show and get a win against a guy ranked [No. 3] in the WBC. It’ll be real big to come in there and handle business. That puts me in the No. 2 or No. 3 spot and gives me a chance to fight for a title.”

The bout will take place on July 26th and will be broadcast live on ESPN’s Friday Night Fights. The fight is promoted by Banner Promotions and Thompson Boxing. Amidu of Los Angeles via Ghana has an impressive mark of 20-4-1 with 18 knockouts and has faced solid opposition.
According to Lou DiBella, his fighter Ajose Olusegun will fight "Hammerin' Hank Lundy on July 19 at Rockingham Park in New Hampshire on ESPN's "Friday Night Fights." "This is an absolutely fantastic card for ESPN," said DiBella. "In the main event, you have two proven contenders, with the winner taking a major step toward challenging for a world championship in the loaded 140-pound division." Olusegun (31-1, 14 KOs) was originally slated to fight Mercito Gesta, but the latter withdrew with an injury. Olusegun was stopped by Lucas Matthysse in September 2012.
Mercito Gesta will return to the ring in late July at a venue to be determined in a 10-rounder against junior welterweight contender Olusegun Ajose, according to Gesta’s manager, Vince Parra. “We accepted the fight a couple weeks ago, and now they’re working on the site, but everything looks set to go on our end,” Parra told BoxingScene.com. Gesta (26-1-1, 14 KOs) is coming off an unsuccessful lightweight world title challenge against Miguel Vazquez last December on the Manny Pacquiao-Juan Manuel Marquez IV undercard.
The Nevada State Athletic Commission has corrected the figures it released earlier this week regarding the Sept. 8 card featuring a main event of Lucas Matthysse vs. Olusegun Ajose. That card sold just 377 tickets, not the 2,439 originally reported to members of the media. That latter amount had actually been the number of tickets printed, according to Keith Kizer, the commission’s executive director. And the total gate from those 377 tickets was $65,675, not the $209,175 that had initially been reported to the media.
The Sept. 8 card featuring a main event of Lucas Matthysse vs. Olusegun Ajose sold 2,439 tickets and brought in a total gate of $209,175, according to figures provided by the Nevada State Athletic Commission. Figures for the number of tickets given away for free, as well as the number of tickets that went unsold, were not yet available.
