Gaby Peñagarícano, the legal adviser to former three division world champion Miguel Cotto (38-4, 31KOs), says a showdown with Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (42-1-1, 30KOs) is a realistic possibility for the end of 2014 or at some point in 2015.

Cotto was unable to meet Canelo on the March date, but Canelo has two other return dates already scheduled -  July 26 and November 22.

"It's an interesting fight, and Miguel said yesterday to the press that Canelo is young and if he keeps winning it could be an interesting matchup down the road....maybe at the end of next year or during the next [in 2015]," Peñagarícano told BoxingScene.com.

Cotto was offered $10 million dollars to face Canelo, a former junior middleweight champion, on March 8th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The Puerto Rican star decided to instead pursue a fight with WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez (51-2-2, 28KOs). The fight is being targeted for June 7th at New York's Madison Square Garden. Canelo's upcoming opponent has yet to be finalized, but Alfredo Angulo and Carlos Molina appear to be the two frontrunners.

If Cotto were to defeat Martinez, he would become the first Puerto Rican fighter in boxing history to win four world titles in four weight divisions - and that accomplishment, among other factors, led him in the direction of the Argentine champion.

"Miguel has been very, very clear, that the middleweight championship is very attractive to him. A fourth title in his fourth division is very attractive to him. And Martinez is a big fight as well," Peñagarícano said.
