Jhonny Gonzalez (52-7) has entered the final stage of his training camp for his upcoming Showtime televised fight against Daniel Ponce De Leon (43-4), taking place on September 15th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The all Mexican showdown serves as the co-feature bout to the Saul "Canelo" Alvarez versus Josesito Alvarez main event. On Tuesday's edition of The Boxing Lab, BoxingScene's official audio show, Gonzalez said that his on track to enter the fight in peak condition.

"Right now I am about 80% through my training.  There still are 3 more weeks left of camp. When I get to the end I will be at 100%," Gonzalez stated.

I asked the 5'7" Gonzalez if he has thought about moving up to 130 pounds at some point in his career.  The current WBC featherweight champion and former super bantamweight champion said that he does plan on moving up in the near future.

"I am focused on Ponce De Leon. I don't want to disrespect him but after the fight if everything goes as planned we will look to fight even stronger fighters at 126 then look to fight a champion at 130 next year. I want to be a champion in three divisions. That is important to me," Gonzalez told The Boxing Lab.

Gonzalez has a plan to achieve his lofty goals.  If everything goes well against Ponce De Leon, he will look to unify titles and then move up to the super featherweight division.

"I wanted to unify titles with Orlando Salido but he's fighting Mikey Garcia now. I would like to fight the winner of that fight and then move up to 130," Gonzalez revealed.
