Former champion Mikey Garcia could finally return to the ring in 2016, according to his brother and trainer Robert Garcia.

Garcia (34-0, 28 KO) would compete in the junior welterweight division, but they won't rule out the idea of potentially dropping down in weight to chase a lightweight championship.

Garcia has been out of the ring since January 2014, when he defeated Mexico's Juan Carlos Burgos. Following that victory, Mikey has been entangled in a legal war with is promoter Top Rank. Mikey had been trying to break away. The two sides came together recently and things went fairly well.

There are a lot of names that Robert would like to see his brother fight at junior welterweight, including Adrien Broner, Terence Crawford, Ruslan Provodnikov and Lucas Matthysse.

"He's preparing well, does sparring three days to a week, eight to 10 rounds of sparring in each session. We are waiting for whatever comes. It seems that everything is solved and I think we could have something again soon, but until now we have no date," Robert told ESPN Deportes.

"I think we're going to 140 pounds. I know it's been nearly two years without fight, so we can not think about 135 pounds but with a couple of fights we'll see if he makes 140 pounds comfortably and then lower [the weight]. I would like for him to fight for a championship."
