The World Boxing Council has launched a comprehensive campaign against the manipulation of gloves.

The focus and the aim is to alert coaches, boxers, managers, promoters and matchmakers of the horrendous risks of tampering with boxing gloves for both the fighter wearing them and delivering the blow, as well as the opponent who gets hit.

WBC President Mauricio Sulaimán, stresses the greatest concern of the boxing community and especially the WBC, is to protect the boxer. So the very first step, is to stop the handling of gloves- a cynical and dangerous practice that's increased so alarming,  and which he starkly describes as:  "A criminal act!"

Mauricio spoke from personal experience. During a recent boxing promotion in the locker room, he found some gloves folded and tied. They had been deliberately manipulated.

Mauricio Sulaiman is urging the boxing community to spread the word of this campaign far and wide, throughout  every boxing gym and all arenas. And to denounce this dreadful act, bringing it to the attention of the relevant authorities, who will take decisive action, applying harsh sanctions against those responsible.

Sr. Alberto Reyes, who owns and runs world famous Cleto Reyes company and is treasurer of the Boxing Commission in Mexico City, gave ​​a clear presentation of how gloves are handled. He explained and he warned of the immense damage that deliberate manipulation can wreak on a boxer.

He explained that Reyes has implemented new techniques in the development of boxing gloves, in order to minimize those that can be maneuvered. He pointed out, and he also stressed that a professional glove MUST NOT be used in more than 30 rounds.

There was also a meticulous demonstration of how to properly achieve hand wrapping for a fighter, and how gloving and taping should be properly done for a professional bout. Hand wrapping and gloving campaign posters were also distributed.

This ceremony was attended by the President of the COMBOX, Francisco Mijares, the COMBOX Secretary Juan Jose Herrrera Ornelas, as well as former world champion Jose Luis Bueno.
