In a recent interview with David Avila of  The Press-Enterprise , Floyd Mayweather, Sr. said that an incident at his mother's house, caused him to make up his mind that he needed to get someone to kick Floyd Mayweather Jr's butt.

He said that Floyd Jr. arrived at his grandmother's house for a family event in November, and once he found out his father was in the house, he quickly left. As soon as Mayweather, Jr. challenged his fighter Oscar De La Hoya to a May 5 bout, he felt that his son was challenging him.

"He jumped back in his car and left," Mayweather said. "That decided for me to ... get someone to kick his butt for me. When he challenged Oscar, he challenged his daddy. Training fighters is my job. People don't understand I was training Oscar before little Floyd wanted to fight him. So why should I have to stop? I didn't tell little Floyd to fight him.""

There has been a lot of talk over whether or not De La Hoya will actually use Floyd Sr. to train him for the May showdown with his son. De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions and Mayweather Sr. are in negotiations for his use in the May bout. Since De La Hoya and Mayweather, Jr. are going to receive eight figure purses for the bout, Floyd Sr. feels that he too should receive more compensation than previously received for other bouts where he trained De La Hoya.

"First, both Oscar and little Floyd are getting much more than they normally get, so why can't I get mine? I got to be compensated," said Mayweather.

Mayweather Sr. says that Oscar must use him if he plans to beat his son. In his opinion, no other trainer can show him how to beat his son, Floyd Jr.

"He's fighting my son. I'm the one who taught him all he knows. If Oscar wants to beat little Floyd, he has to come to me," Mayweather said. "I'm not saying he can't beat Floyd without me, because he does have a puncher's chance. But I got all the answers because little Floyd learned all he knows from me."
