World Boxing Council President Jose Sulaiman presided over the Wednesday general assembly meeting at the WBC’s 44th annual convention.

The morning session was devoted to ratings, which will soon be available for publication.

The afternoon session was devoted to mandatory title defenses.

Heavyweight: World champion Oleg Maskaev of Kazakhstan has a voluntary defense scheduled for December 10 against No. 10 ranked Peter Okello of Uganda. No. 1 ranked Samuel Peter of Nigeria will fight No. 2 ranked James Toney of the United States in a final eliminator on January 6 to determine the official challenger.

Cruiserweight: The purse offer for world champion O’Neil Bell’s mandatory defense against No. 1 ranked Jean Marc Mormeck of France was won by Don King Productions and originally scheduled for November 27. DKP received an extension on the date, which will now reportedly be in January or February. In the meantime, Bell, of the United States, decided to participate in the Superfighters tournament on December 2, which was approved by the WBC.

No. 2 ranked David Haye of England is scheduled to fight No. 3 ranked Giacobbe Fragomeni of Italy in a final eliminator on November 17. If Bell is physically available, he will make his mandatory defense against Mormeck on the January or February date. If Bell is not available for his mandatory defense, the winner of the final eliminator will fight Mormeck for the interim title.

Light heavyweight: World champion Tomasz Adamek of Poland is in a voluntary period. No. 1 ranked Stipe Drews of Croatia will fight No. 3 ranked Chad Dawson of the United States in a final eliminator on December 2.

Super middleweight: The WBC received a medical report that world champion Mikkel Kessler of Denmark will not be available to fight until March. The free negotiation period for his mandatory defense against No. 1 ranked Librado Andrade of Mexico will begin in January.

Middleweight: World champion Jermain Taylor of the United States has a voluntary defense scheduled against No. 3 ranked Kassim Ouma of Uganda on December 9. The fight between No. 1 ranked Winky Wright of the United States and No. 4 ranked Ike Quartey of Ghana on December 2 was approved as a final eliminator. Another eliminator was approved between No. 2 ranked Kelly Pavlik of the United States and No. 5 ranked Edison Miranda of Colombia.

Super welterweight: World champion Oscar De La Hoya of the United States/Mexico is scheduled to fight next year on May 16 against an opponent to be determined. Two eliminators were approved: No. 1 ranked Shane Mosley of the United States against No. 3 ranked Vernon Forrest of the United States, and No. 2 ranked Sergio Martinez of Argentina against No. 4 ranked Saul Roman of Mexico. The eliminators will determine the mandatory challenger for De La Hoya’s following fight, or determine the two top-rated challengers who will fight for the vacant title in the event that De La Hoya retires.

Welterweight: World champion Carlos Baldomir of Argentina is scheduled to make his mandatory defense against No. 1 ranked official challenger Floyd Mayweather of the United States on November 4.

Super lightweight: World champion Junior Witter of England, who won the vacant title in September, is required to make two mandatory defenses, and two final eliminators were approved. The first is No. 1 ranked Jose Luis Castillo of Mexico against No. 3 ranked Herman Ngoudjo of Canada, scheduled for January 27. The second is No. 2 ranked Vivian Harris of Guyana against No. 4 ranked Juan Lazcano of the United States.

Lightweight: World champion Joel Casamayor of Cuba must next fight interim champion David Diaz of the United States, who has been designated as the official challenger.

Super featherweight: The November 18 fight beween No. 1 ranked Manny Pacquiao of the Philippines and No. 2 ranked Erik Morales of Mexico has been approved as a final eliminator to determine the official challenger for world champion Marco Antonio Barrera of Mexico. In the case that Pacquiao and Morales can’t or won’t accept the Barrera fight, No. 3 ranked Humberto Soto of Mexico was approved as the official challenger.

Featherweight: World champion Rodolfo Lopez of Mexico is in a voluntary period and has a title defense scheduled against No. 3 ranked Injin Chi of Korea on December 17. No. 1 ranked Oscar Larios of Mexico, the former super bantamweight world champion and the WBC’s 2003 Fighter of the Year, was approved as the official challenger.

Super bantamweight: A final eliminator was approved between No. 1 ranked Naphapol Kiattisakchocchoi and No. 2 Saenghiran Singwancha, both of Thailand, to determine the official challenger for world champion Israel Vazquez of Mexico.

Bantamweight: World champion Hozumi Hasegawa of Japan is scheduled to make his mandatory defense against No. 1 ranked official challenger Genaro Garcia of Mexico on November 13.

Super flyweight: World champion Masamori Tokuyama has reportedly announced his retirement and said he will compete in a K1 fight. A decision regarding this division has been postponed until the WBC receives confirmation of Tokuyama’s status from the Japan commission.

Flyweight: World champion Pongsaklek Wonjongkam of Thailand is scheduled to make his mandatory defense against No. 1 ranked official challenger Monelisi Myekeni of South Africa on November 17.

Light flyweight: A final eliminator has been approved between No. 1 ranked Edgar Sosa of Mexico and No. 2 ranked Luis Lazarte of Argentina to determined the official challenger for world champion Omar Nino of Mexico.

Strawweight: A final eliminator was approved between No. 1 ranked Oleydong Sithsanerchai of Thailand and No. 2 ranked Omar Soto of Puerto Rico fo determine the official challenger for world champion Eagle Kyoya of Japan.
