Mexico’s Edgar Sosa faces the greatest challenge of his career, when he goes to Bangkok to contest for the WBC flyweight championship.

Edgar, who’ll be fighting the pride of Thai champion Pongsaklek Wonjongkam - one of the top eight pound for pound fighters in the world, says he’s undergone the most intense and complete training periods of his career. This includes some carefully supervised weight training sessions, especially on his legs and upper body to add on extra strength, without sacrificing agility and speed.

Edgar and entourage leave Mexico on October 10th, and the fight is on October 21st.

Stopping off at the Zona Rosa headquarters of the World Boxing Council, Edgar was honed, ripped and ready, confident but also astute in his assessment of the awesome challenge ahead.

He explained: “This is going to be a very complicated fight. Factors like climate and diet and it’s on his home turf where he’s a national hero. But I’m going there with absolute determination and in fantastic physical shape.

“Pongsaklek is a very able and a very complete boxer. There is a very well balanced fight in prospect. But all champions have a cycle. He’s had many, many fights, more than double than me, and has more wear and tear. He’s got experience, but me too. I have skills accumulated from eleven defenses as a world champion. So I too have acquired maturity.”

Edgar says he can go the full twelve, but he’ll be applying constant pressure, especially from the fourth and fifth round on, when he predicts things are going to warm up. He also significantly added “If you don’t look for a knockout, you won’t find one. It’s going to be an intense fight. I’m hungry for another title. My aim is to bring the title home to Mexico.”
