Gabriel Peñagaricano, the legal adviser for WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto, says Ricardo Mayorga will be a lead-in opponent to a June rematch with Antonio Margarito. Cotto was initially going to wait it out until the June rematch with Margarito, but his team wanted him to stay active. Cotto has not been in the ring since winning the title from Yuri Foreman in June. Maragrito stopped Cotto in eleven rounds in 2008.

A few days ago, promoters Bob Arum and Don King reached an agreement for Mayorga to become Cotto's opponent on March 12 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

"I wanted Miguel to have a fight before he faces Margarito again in June and Mayorga is a good opponent. It is important that Miguel stays active," Peñagaricano told Carlos Gonzalez.
