At the WBC's 48th annual convention in Cancun, Mexico, it was agreed by all of the involved parties, that WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko would face the winner of the final eliminator on December 17, to be contested between Ray Austin and Odlanier Solis. Arena Box, K2 Promotions and Don King agreed on the split, which the WBC approved, in the event of a purse bid. Klitschko will received 70% of the money, with the Austin/Solis winner getter a 30% portion.

Klitschko had initially asked to defend against Tomasz Adamek, but King and Arena Box would not back away from Klitschko having to face the winner of the eliminator. Though, the WBC will sanction Klitschko-Adamek, if the Austin-Solis bout ends in a draw or one of the boxers gets injured in the fight.
