BoxingScene.com has been advised that Steve Cunningham vs. Matt Godfrey, for the vacant IBF cruiserweight title, has been saved for March 26. The fight will move from the Treasure Island Casino in Las Vegas, and will now take place at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago, Illinois. ESPN will still televise.

On Wednesday BoxingScene had multiple reports detailing the contractual dispute between Don King and ESPN, which led to the fight falling apart. King was going to put together a doubleheader on the network, featuring Cunningham-Godfrey and Cory Spinks defending his IBF junior middleweight title against Cornelius Bundrage. He was unable to reach a deal with ESPN on the contract terms outlining the rights.

It appears New Jersey-based promotional outfit Main Events has saved the fight. How you ask? King won the Cunningham-Godfrey purse bid on December 18 with a figure of $65,200. Main Events had the second highest bid with $53,200. Because King was unable to put the show together within 90-days, the second-highest bidder is allowed to step in. Main Events were able to reach a deal with Chicago promoter Dominic Pesoli to place the fight on his existing show.

The story gets deeper than that. Cunningham's contract with King expires at the end of the month, and there are some who expect him to sign with Main Events. No word on when or where Spinks-Bundrage will fall.
