At the Coliseo Olimpico de la UG in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, Omar Nino Romero (28-3, 11KOs) and Rodel Mayol (26-4, 20KOs) fought to a three round technical draw. Mayol keeps his WBC junior flyweight title. The ending was very controversial and the announcers, at first, called Romero the winner by TKO.

Nino did well in the first round as the two boxed. In the second, Mayol was landing some heavy punches that put Nino in trouble. Nino began to throw back some big punches to send the crowd into a frenzy. They traded punches with Mayol getting the better of the action.

During the third, there was a weird situation where Mayol got hit with a low blow and the ref was coming in to pull Nino back during the finish. When Rodel got hit with the low blow, he dropped his hands in pain and Nino stepped on his foot and hit him with a left hook that knocked him out cold. As Nino was throwing that hook, the ref was trying to pull him back to warn him for the low blow - or at least that's what the replay showed. A very controversial ending. Mayol was taken out on a stretcher.

In the co-feature, Daniel Estrada (22-1, 18KOs) stopped Angel Alirio Rivera (21-8, 14KOs) in the tenth and final round of a very exciting lightweight war.

In the first round, Estrada controlled the action with his better skills. In the second, Rivera caught Estrada with a left hook right on the chin to send him down. Estrada seemed shocked that he got caught. When he got up, a war broke out with both guys throwing bombs from every corner. They continued to brawl in the third round. Estrada's face began to swell up. The war entered into the fourth round. Estrada's face continued to swell and cuts opened near both eyes. He hurt Rivera in near the end. As he tried to finish Estrada fought back in toe to toe fashion.

Rivera's face was starting to show some damage by the fifth. The sixth and seventh rounds were close. Both fighters had their moments during the back and forth action. In the eight, Rivera was slowing down but caught a second wind and began to unload on Estrada. The ninth round was more of the same with both guys trading some heavy shots. During the tenth round, the fighters were exchanging punches and the ref jumped in to stop the fight and called Estrada the winner. Very bad stoppage because the fight was up for grabs and Rivera did not seem to be in any kind of trouble. The crowd was upset with the stoppage.
