The hunt for Fernando Montiel continues but Eric Morel, the mandatory challenger for what seems like an eternity, is getting closer to his target. If Morel gets past former champion Gerry Penalosa at the Las Vegas Hilton on February 13, he will land Montiel in June. On the same card, Montiel defends the WBO bantamweight title against big underdog Michael Domingo. Ivan Rivera, president of Puerto Rico Best Boxing, spoke with Primera Hora and said the two-fight deal was too good to pass up.

"If Morel beats Penalosa, he will face the winner of the bout between Fernando Montiel and Michael Domingo," said Rivera. "The fight for the title would be in June. Everything has been negotiated and we have contracts. It was economically beneficial for all parties, so Eric will have the opportunity to have two fights instead of one."
