According to the WBC, Israel Vazquez, despite the long layoff due to injury, is still in line for a title shot at WBC featherweight champion Elio Rojas of the Dominican Republic. Rojas captured the title in July from Takahiro Aoh.

The sanctioning body has Rojas listed to defend the title on October 27 in Thailand against unbeaten Chonlatarn Piriyapinyo (31-0, 17KOs). Piriyapinyo has never fought outside of his country. Asian reporters have called him a very tough fighter. It doesn't matter who wins in October, Vazquez has the ability to demand a shot. Vazquez returns on October 10 against Angel Priolo.
