At Estadio Luna Park in Buenos Aires, Argentina, WBO flyweight champion Omar Narvaez (30-0-2, 19 KOs) made a record sixteenth title defense by stopping Omar Soto (17-5-1, 11 KOs) in eleven rounds.

Narvaez had few problems in the fight. He was too slick and too fast for the slower and less skilled Soto. The challenger was unable to get off with his punches and at the same time he was unable to stop the champion's charge to the head or the body. Soto lost a point in round eight for a clash of heads. After outboxing his opponent for the majority of the fight, Narvaez closed the show with series of power punches in the eleventh to send Soto down. The rugged Mexican boxer beat the count but the ref had seen enough and called a halt to the contest.
