The Philippines Jonel Alivio has been knocked out in the 11th round of his title fight against Asian Boxing Council featherweight champion Chonlatarn Piriyapinyo in Sakon Nakhon, Thailand.

The undefeated Chonlatarn who is ranked No. 4 by the World Boxing Council improved his record to 30-0 with 16 knockouts and has made 20 successful defenses of the vacant title he won with a twelve round unanimous decision over Rolando Gerongco also of the Philippines on July 9, 2004.

The 23 year old Alivio fell to 9-9-1 with 4 knockouts.

Alivio fought six times in 2008 winning two and losing four fights which again raised the question of how the Philippine Games and Amusements Board could sanction the ABCO title fight based on the fighters records and the fact that Chonlatarn had beaten a number of better Filipino boxers who were rated much higher in several of his title defenses.

The Filipino was not rated in the top 15 of the ABCO.

Alivio dropped a ten round unanimous decision to Wajib Suswanto on June 7, 2008, then lost a twelve round unanimous decision to Thangthong Kiattaweesuk in an IBF Pan Pacific bantamweight title fight on July 25 after which he suffered an eleventh round unanimous decision setback to Poonsawat Kartingdaenggym on September 30 before losing a ten round decision to South Korea’s Seung Suk Chae on December 20 last year.

Under rules promulgated by the GAB a boxer will not be allowed to fight abroad unless he wins three of his last five fight but according to boxrec.com Alivio lost four of his last five fights with his only win being a 2nd round TKO over Richard Agagad last August 16, 2008.

A report from Bangkok said the Filipino boxer merely looked to survive the fight but a flurry of punches by Chonlatarn which ended with a solid right hook dropped Alivio for the full count.

Chonlatarn’s lady promoter Pariyakorn Rattasuban said she will try to get the undefeated Thai a crack at the vacant WBC Interim title against another highly ranked opponent because a title shot at Japan’s Takahiro Aoh who won the title from veteran Oscar Larios is not possible at this time.
