The WBC has given their full support to "Champion Emeritus" Israel Vazquez, who was recently approved to fight after recovering from several surgical procedures to correct a detached retina.

The WBC has approved Vazquez going directly to a world title shot against featherweight champion Takahiro Aoh of Japan. Aoh won the title in March from Oscar Larios and makes his first defense on July 14 against Elio Rojas. The WBC would rather see Vazquez in a fight with someone other than Rafael Marquez.

"If he decides to, Israel has the right to go directly to Aoh. His opportunity is secure. We do not want Israel to return to face Rafael Marquez. They fought three times already and their styles are very damaging. They should look for other places but if they insist on a fourth clash, then they are making a choice between money and life. Our commitment is to request the document from the California State Athletic Commission, approving that Israel can continue in boxing," the WBC issued in a statement to ESTO.
