The pathetic state of affairs in boxing continues with a few rare exceptions. Over the weekend the saga of Filipino boxers getting mauled abroad continued with two boxers being beaten in Thailand, two others also beaten, one in Japan and one more in Australia. One Filipino salvaged a majority draw in Tokyo.

The worst defeat was that suffered by  Jun Pader who was knocked out in 1:46 of the second round in a WBO Asia Pacific super flyweight title bout against  undefeated Thai champion and WBO No.1 Pramuansak Phosuwan who entered the ring with a record of 28-0-1 with 16 knockouts.

Pader who was knocked out in the very first round on July 1 when fighting as a flyweight in a Pan Asia Boxing Association title clash with another Thai Denkaosan Kaovichit was no match for Phosuwan. The world No. 1 stalked Pader from the opening bell and destroyed the badly over-matched challenger with a hard right to the mid-section.

Another Filipino Edmund Velayo dropped a six round unanimous decision to Thailand’s undefeated Pan Asia Boxing Association light flyweight champion Nethra Sasiprara who improved his record to 11-0 with 3 knockouts.

At the famed Korakuen Hall in Japan for OPBF super bantamweight champion Pedrito Laurente, fighting as a featherweight lost a lopsided ten round decision to Toshiaki Nishioka, a southpaw with a record of 26-4-3 with 15 KO’s with two judges giving the fight to the Japanese by a three-point margin and the third judge having Nishioka the winner  by six points, 99-93.

Philippine super bantamweight champion Alex Escaner who won the title last July 17 with a split decision over Ayon Naranjo salvaged a majority draw against featherweight Yuta Nagai while in Newcastle West in Australia, light welterweight Rolando Gerongco beaten in a six round bout by Australian Danny Boy Pierce for his sixth straight defeat in Australia this year.
