Filipino Brian Viloria says he has “what it takes” to beat WBC champion Eric Ortiz after four months of preparation although he admitted the Mexican would be “hard to beat.”

Viloria said he had done what was “right and correct” and with trainer Freddie Roach in his corner “I’m going to be the next world champion.” Viloria says he has watched a couple of Ortiz’ fight tapes and believes “I am much quicker than he is. I will have to exploit that and use my speed against him.”

Viloria also said he was “one of the hardest hitters in my weight division so if I put the two together and train hard I should be able to come up with a win.”

Viloria who won the hearts of millions of Filipinos when he publicly corrected promoter Bob Arum who said he was part Filipino disclosed he would wear the Philippine flag on his trunks when he meets Ortiz at the Staples Center on September 10.

Viloria said he would dedicate his fight to Ruben Contreras who was in an induced coma after being stopped by the hard-hitting Filipino some months ago but has made a miraculous recovery and has been invited to the fights along with his wife by Viloria.

The little Filipino referred to Contreras as  “a very tough fighter who has won the biggest fight of his life, the fight between life and death. He’s been such an inspiration.” Viloria said many people were concerned that he would be affected by what happened to Contreras but he said his opponent had recovered

and it “won’t bother me one bit.”
