According to Mexican media members who were backstage for Marco Antonio Barrera's three-round disqualification win over replacement opponent Freudis Rojas at the Auditorio Telmex in Jalisco, Mexico - Barrera's upcoming fight with Amir Khan on March 14 is in serious trouble.

Barrera (65-6, 43 KOs) suffered a bad cut above his left eye when Rojas hit him with a straight head shot. The ringside doctor examined the cut and felt it was too serious to allow the fight to continue and the ref issued the DQ call on Rojas (1-8-1, 1KOs).

Some of the media members who were backstage said the word going around was that Marco would not be able to recover in time to have a decent training camp for the fight with Khan, scheduled to take place at the MEN Arena in Manchester.

There are also a lot of allegations being thrown around by several Mexican media members. The original opponent, Johnny Nolasco, who can fight a bit, never showed up for the weigh-in. An opponent jumps in, Rojas, with a record of 1-7, lost his last five and has been inactive since November of 2007. Rojas has never been past six rounds and the best fighter he faced had a record of 7-1. This fight would have never been approved by any boxing commission with a brain.

Besides the published overseas reports that called Barrera-Rojas a mismatch on the highest criminal level, what some Mexican press members have alleged is that Rojas was thrown in at the last second to make sure that nothing derailed Barrera's bout with Khan. Now it appears that Rojas may have derailed the bout by causing the cut above Barrera's eye.
