BoxingScene.com has been informed that an explosive doubleheader may possibly come off in January, in Texas (almost certain to be Houston), with HBO televising. The co-feature is sizing up to be a crossroads lightweight battle between former champions Michael Katsidis (23-2, 20KOs) and Jesus Chavez (44-4, 30KOs).

Katsidis has lost two fights in a row, a tenth-round TKO defeat to Joel Casamayor back in March and losing a split-decision to Juan Diaz a few weeks ago in Houston. Chavez has won two in a row since returning earlier in the year from a bad knee injury.

The possible main event has a bit of bad blood behind it. WBA featherweight champion Chris John (41-0, 22KOs) would make his American debut against hometown favorite Rocky Juarez (28-4, 20KOs). The fight was being discussed a few months ago. John's team claimed that Juarez took too long to accept the fight, forcing them to move forward with another opponent. Juarez has always countered that he was ready and willing to fight and has no idea why John's team thought he was stalling on making a decision to accept the deal.

Let's not celebrate yet.

A lot of issues have to be worked out before this fight can come close to being finalized. The agreed upon weight is not clear at the moment. Following his win over Jorge Barrios a few weeks ago, Juarez told reporters that he would not consider a possible return to 126. If John fights him at 130, it would at least guarantee him the security of remaining the champion regardless of the outcome.

For negotiations to head in a serious direction, John must first take care of business on October 24 when he defends his title against unbeaten Hiroyuki Enoki (27-0-2, 19KOs) at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan. The opponent won't be a walk in the park, Enoki comes to fight and John is said to be vigorously training.

John-Juarez is good for Golden Boy Promotions, especially if John wins. A win would set up a probable rematch with Juan Manuel Marquez, who John decisioned in 2006.
