The light heavyweight contest between Joe Calzaghe (45-0, 32 KOs) and Roy Jones Jr. (52-4, 38 KOs) appears to be a go for September 20. Instead of Las Vegas, the event will likely take place at New York's Madison Square Garden. The card will be televised by HBO pay-per-view, as expected.

The next bit of info is odd indeed. Jones told ESPN that after he defeats Calzaghe, he wants to move back up to the heavyweight division in order to challenge current WBC champion Samuel Peter. For that to happen, Peter would have to win his mandatory bout with Vitali Klitschko in the fall.

"They call Samuel Peter 'The Nightmare,'" Jones said. "I'll give him a nightmare. I like to do stuff people think I can't do. But I am really looking forward to fighting Joe first. Joe called me out and it's hard for me to turn that down. I didn't need the fight, but he asked for it and it's hard to turn down that opportunity when he's such a credible and worthy champion. I want to get back to the pound-for-pound list and this is the shortcut. I beat Joe, I'm back on top."

With Joel Casamayor-Juan Manuel Marquez taking place on September 13, HBO will have back-to-back $50 dollar pay-per-views. I guess the boxing fan can never catch a break.
