According to promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank, talks have already begun for a potential meeting between WBC/WBO middleweight champ Kelly Pavlik and WBC/WBO/WBA super middleweight champ Joe Calzaghe, who decisioned light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins last month.

At the recent Los Angeles press conference to announce the June bout between Manny Pacquiao and David Diaz, Arum told reporters that he would like to set up a fight between Pavlik and Calzaghe.

Calzaghe is promoted by Frank Warren and trained by his father Enzo Calzaghe. Pavlik returns on June 7 in Atlantic City against mandatory challenger Gary Lockett, who is also promoted by Warren and trained by Enzo.

If Pavlik comes out on top, Arum will sit down that weekend with Warren and Ezno to work out a deal for Calzaghe-Pavlik. Arum also expects Joe Calzaghe to be at the fight to support his stablemate Lockett.

"Enzo is his trainer, and we expect Joe will be at the fight," Arum told BoxingScene's Kieran Mulvaney. "If Kelly wins, which we hope he will and we expect him to, then it sets up a fight against Calzaghe down the road."

Calzaghe has great interest in fighting Pavlik or Roy Jones Jr. in his next outing, but sources indicate that Jones is asking for a lot of money. Warren met last week with promoter Don King, who flew to the UK to negotiate a Calzaghe-Jones bout. At the end of the day, the best deal on the table is the one that Calzaghe will likely take.
