Promoter Bob Arum told BoxingScene.com on Tuesday that the Terence Crawford-Jeff Horn/Manny Pacquiao-Mike Alvarado doubleheader won’t take place at Madison Square Garden.

The ESPN Pay-Per-View show featuring Crawford and Pacquiao, scheduled for April 14, instead is headed to one of MGM Resorts International’s properties in Las Vegas. Mandalay Bay is a popular property among those that travel for Pacquiao’s fights in Las Vegas and is the hotel where Pacquiao prefers to stay when he fights in that city, but Arum wasn’t certain Tuesday of the exact site.

Arum had hoped to bring that card to Madison Square Garden in Manhattan, but there already are two boxing cards scheduled for April at Barclays Center in nearby Brooklyn.

Several weeks earlier, Top Rank Inc., Arum’s company, will bring a March 17 card topped by junior welterweights Amir Imam and Jose Ramirez to The Theater at Madison Square Garden. Arum also said Top Rank intends to bring Vasyl Lomachenko’s next fight, perhaps against WBA lightweight champ Jorge Linares, to Madison Square Garden on May 12.

Junior welterweights Adrien Broner and Omar Figueroa Jr., both of whom have been arrested recently, are expected to headline an April 21 card at Barclays Center. A week later, middleweight contender Daniel Jacobs is expected to meet Maciej Sulecki in an April 28 main event at Barclays Center.

“It’s a bit much, even for New York, particularly with all the stuff going on at Barclays,” Arum said. “For us to come there in March, April and May, that’s a lot.”

Arum added that he thinks he is close to finalizing a deal for Pacquiao (59-7-2, 38 KOs) to battle Alvarado (38-4, 26 KOs) on April 14. The 39-year-old Pacquiao hasn’t fought since losing a controversial unanimous decision to Australia’s Jeff Horn (18-0-1, 11 KOs) on July 2 in Brisbane, Australia, Horn’s hometown.

“We’re making progress on it,” Arum said. “I’m gonna talk to Michael [Koncz] tonight and hopefully wrap it all up.”

Pacquiao told reporters in the Philippines on Tuesday that he would welcome a fight against Argentina’s Lucas Matthysse (39-4, 36 KOs, 1 NC) on April 14.

“I see he has talked about fighting Matthysse,” Arum said, “but that’s not gonna happen.”

Arum’s company promotes Pacquiao and Alvarado. Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions represents Matthysse.

Crawford (32-0, 23 KOs), the WBO’s mandatory challenger at 147 pounds, will make his welterweight debut against Horn.
