Ben Davison has a tough act to follow after becoming Tyson Fury's new trainer, but the 25-year-old is confident he is the man for the job.

At the end of 2017, Fury announced his split his uncle and long-term cornerman Peter Fury. Now the former heavyweight king is planning a highly-anticipated comeback in the spring.

Speaking to Steve Lillis on the latest BoxNation Podcast, Davison explained how the partnership came about.

"I've worked with Billy Joe [Saunders] for a number of years. We came out to Marbella for a training camp, Tyson came along and we started working out at MTK Marbella.

"We gelled straight away. He said to me there and then about working with him. I said at first don't jump in to any decisions. He was adamant that that was what he wanted to do and here we are today," explained Davison.

Fury recently revealed that he is training twice a day, every day under his new coach and has already shed four stone in eight weeks.

"The timing of everything's gone perfectly. All of the questions that have needed to be asked at this point have been answered very comfortably. So far everything's perfectly on track. We're not rushing anything. It's clear to see the weight's falling off him and it should be a good ride!"

Some fans will know Davison as the stand-in trainer for Saunders' disappointing World Title defence against Artur Akavov in December 2016, but the Champion was the first to admit he had prepared poorly.

"Going into that, me and Billy Joe knew that was going to be the situation. Since the fight, Billy Joe's not made it a secret that he had a lot of issues going into the fight. That night was just about getting the job done, we knew it was going to be a very flat performance," admitted Davison.

"You can't get put in more of a hotseat than the situation that was leading into the Akavov fight. He asked me to do it and I did it. That's not something that bothers me, I'm confident in my own abilities."
