Erickson Lubin isn’t the least bit intimidated by the biggest moment of his boxing career.

The powerful southpaw’s shot at Jermell Charlo is just four days away and the undefeated contender cannot wait to prove what he has been saying for nearly a year. The Orlando, Florida, native has just 18 fights and limited experience against top opposition, but Lubin is confident he is more than ready to win a world title at just 22 years of age.

Based on some of the things Charlo has said about him, Lubin believes the defending WBC super welterweight champion is underestimating him.

“They interviewed Charlo during my December 10th fight,” Lubin said during an episode of Showtime’s “A Day In Camp,” posted to its website and YouTube page Monday. “Maybe being a little arrogant or cocky, he said I needed about five or six more fights before I could face him. All I got to say to that is he’s got a big surprise coming for him.”

Plenty of critics contend Lubin isn’t quite ready for this type of fight, but the mandatory challenger for Charlo’s title thinks the timing is perfect.

“I love that pressure,” Lubin said. “Every single day, I wake up and I think about this fight. … I feel like he’s a straight-forward fighter. There’s a lot of mistakes that he makes that I could capitalize on. If he makes that mistake and comes out wild, trying to knock me out, it’s not gonna happen.”

The scheduled 12-round bout between Houston’s Charlo (29-0, 14 KOs) and Lubin (18-0, 13 KOs) will be the second of three 154-pound title fights Showtime will broadcast Saturday night from Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

The main event will feature Cuban southpaw Erislandy Lara (24-2-2, 14 KOs), who’ll defend his WBA and IBO titles against Cleveland’s Terrell Gausha (20-0, 9 KOs). In the opener of Showtime’s tripleheader (10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT), Jarrett Hurd (20-0, 14 KOs), of Accokeek, Maryland, will make the first defense of his IBF title against former WBA champion Austin Trout (30-3, 17 KOs), of Las Cruces, New Mexico.

“On October 14th,” Lubin said, “the whole world will know my name – Erickson ‘The Hammer’ Lubin.”
