Madison Square Garden, New York City - In a battle of big punchers, Srisaket Sor Rungvisai (42-4-1, 38 KOs) won a twelve round majority decision over previously undefeated Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez (46-1, 38 KOs) to capture the WBC super flyweight title. Gonzalez was down in the first round. The scores were 113-113 for a draw, 114-112, 114-112.

Gonzalez, regarded as the top pound for pound fighter in the world, was a big favorite to win the fight. Sor Rungvisai is now a two-time WBC champion.

There was immediate drama in the first round, after Sor Rungvisai dropped Gonzalez with a hard body shot in the final thirty seconds. Gonzalez got up at the count of eight and fought Sor Rungvisai off. 

Sor Rungvisai was taking the fight to Gonzalez in the second round. They were trading very hard shots and landing big punches on each other. The third round started with more trading and once again Sor Rungvisai was coming forward with big punches. There was a clash of heads during the round with a cut opening up outside of the right side of Gonzalez's face. Gonzalez has a sense of urgency after that and started unloading with big punches.

There was leather flying at the start of the fourth. Eventually they came in close and it was an inside fight with Sor Rungvisai having the edge as they were trading big shots. Gonzalez rallied off some big punches in the closing moments. In the fifth, it was all offense from Sor Rungvisai but little defense and Gonzalez was able to land a lot of hard, accurate right hands.

Gonzalez was unloading at the start of the sixth round. There was another clash of heads where Gonzalez got time to recover. When the fight restarted, it was a fire fight but Gonzalez had the edge with more punches landed and more accuracy. Sor Ringvisai was hurt to the body and there was point deducted from him after another head clash.

In the seventh, Sor Rungvisai seemed to recover and outslugged Gonzalez as they stood close and were trading hard shots. The eight was close, with another inside battle that Gonzalez was winning with more accurate damage. More inside warfare in the ninth and Gonzalez had the edge with the more flashy shots, but Sor Rungvisai was landing a lot of leather as well.

Gonzalez was a bloody mess from cuts on the right side of his face as he entered the tenth. They never took a step back, trading big shots and once again fighting hard at close range with big shots. The eleventh round was controlled for the most part by Sor Rungvisai, who changed up his game plan by sticking and moving - and landing on Gonzalez as he was coming inside.

Gonzalez let it all hang out in the twelfth round as he was throwing an army of punches and landing many of them on Sor Rungvisai. The Thai boxer was doing more holding than punching - but did unload with a lot of shots in the closing seconds.
