Last week, the World Boxing Association (WBA) issued a purse bid extension for mandatory fight between middleweight champions Gennady Golovkin and Daniel Jacobs.

The WBA has given both sides until October 12th to reach a deal. The purse bid will likely take place on October 22nd. Golovkin holds the WBA's 'super title' at the weight, while Jacobs is the 'regular' champion.

Last week, Jacobs' attorney Leon Margules submitted a petition to modify the percentage terms of the purse bid - which were 75-25 in favor of Golovkin. Jacobs wanted a 60-40 split in favor of Golovkin. The WBA made a decision on Wednesday and denied Jacobs' request - stating that the purse bid will remain at 75-25.

The two sides are negotiating the terms for an HBO televised date of December 10th, with the Barclays Center and Madison Square Garden as potentials venues to host the fight in New York City.

The World Championships Committee of WBA, after having voted unanimously, denied any modification of the monetary terms.

According to the rules of the organization in Article 9, Section D - an order for a purse bid, between a regular champion and a super champion, would result in percentages that are 75% and 25% respectively.

However, the rules of the WBA in section C Article 46 specifies that: "... the strict application of the rules can be modified when WBA sees fit and justified to accommodate special circumstances. In such case, the WBA will consider a request for special permission or exception .... "

Having said that, they decided to deny the modification of purse bid percentages based on section C rule 47, which provides that the sanctioning body may grant or deny special requests if it receives the vote of at least two thirds of the Championships Committee.
