So will the fight between unified middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (36-0, 33KOs) and Mexican superstar Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez (48-1-1, 34KOs) take place next September?

During an in-studio appearance on 'the 3 Knockdown Rule' with Mario Lopez, the president of Golden Boy Promotions, Eric Gomez, stated:

"(Golden Boy CEO) Oscar (De La Hoya) has one goal for next year and it's to make the 'Triple G' fight. Oscar wants to make the fight, 'Canelo' has one goal - and that's to fight 'Triple G'. But it has to be the right circumstances and that's what people aren't seeing."

The hope is for Alvarez and Golovkin meet in 2017. It is widely considered the best and most lucrative fight that can realistically be made in boxing.

"There's negotiations going on, there's things that are being talked about and it's gotta be the right deal. It's gotta be the right deal but the kid wants to do it," said Gomez, who says that Alvarez's track record speaks for itself.

"He has fought everybody, there's only one guy that's left standing and that's 'Triple G' who's outside of his weight class. He proved it again that he's a '54-pounder. He just made '54. People were saying, 'Oh, he's a middleweight, he's a middleweight,'" said Gomez, alluding to Alvarez's fight on September 17th where he stopped Liam Smith in nine rounds at AT&T Stadium near Dallas, Texas, for the WBO junior middleweight crown.

But the public yearns for a showdown with Golovkin.

Gomez continued - "That's the fight we want, we're going to do our best to make it happen."
