Undefeated Puerto Rican fighter Felix 'Diamante' Verdejo (22-0, 15KOs) admits he made a very big mistake by riding recklessly on a motorcycle, which led to him suffering injuries from an accident on Sunday in the jurisdiction of Rio Grande, towards Carolina. Verdejo was taken to the Medical Center in Rio Piedras.

Verdejo was riding on PR-3 road towards Fajardo to Carolina at about 5:44 pm when he lost control and fell to the pavement near a car dealership. The boxer was traveling with another motorcyclist who stopped to give assistance.

World Boxing Organization President Paco Valcarcel has placed a hold on Verdejo's mandatory world title shot. The World Boxing Organization recently ordered WBO lightweight champion Terry Flanagan to make a mandatory defense against the Puerto Rican boxer.

Family, friends and even his manager/trainer Ricky Marquez were not very happy with his decision to ride the bike. Marquez was unaware that Verdejo had been riding motorcycles. Several medical tests were conducted at the center and nothing serious was discovered.

Verdejo says the entire incident, and the aftermath, he straightened him out and set him on the correct path for future success.

"I'm ready to fight, with new scars from a lesson of life, but now I'm more mature, more determined and more eager than ever to give my people the joy of a world championship. Thanks to everyone for their messages of support at a difficult time, worrying about me and putting me in your prayers. Thank you," said Verdejo.

"I learned a great lesson, I'm not perfect. I'm growing as a person and I am more committed than ever to my people, with my career and with all of you today."
