Former world champion and Golden Boy Promotions executive Bernard Hopkins believes Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin is doing exactly what he criticized Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez for doing several months ago.

Golokin lashed out out at Canelo when the Mexican superstar signed on to face Amir Khan in May. Khan, a welterweight contender, moved up by eight pounds to face challenge Canelo for the WBC middleweight title. Golovkin said the fight was disrespectful to boxing and called it nothing more than a 'business fight.'

Next month, Golovkin will defend the WBC/WBA/IBO/IBF middleweight belts against IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook, who moves up by 13 pounds to the full limit of 160-pounds.

Hopkins, who's company promotes Canelo, says Brook is doing an old school move by moving up several divisions to face the champion, but Golovkin on the other hand is going back on his word - promising to fight the very best. Canelo is back in the junior middleweight division and faces WBO champion Liam Smith on September 17th.

Hopkins himself was trying to get Golovkin in the ring. He says Golovkin's handlers were not in favor of the contest.

"It's not fair criticism [that Golovkin gave to Canelo], but I'm not really looking at what Triple G is doing - I'm looking at his opponent who is coming from 147 and having enough heart to try to make history like other fighters have don before in history," Hopkins told ES News.

"As you just mentioned and everybody know [Golovkin] is calling the kettle black. It's a figure of speech that we used to sa, back on the East Coast more than the West Coast. And now Triple G is doing the same thing that he accused Canelo of doing. Again, only time will reveal all the frauds in boxing who say they want to fight the best and then they wind up doing something else. Only time will tell. You see things and you pay attention, but not everybody pays attention because they don't want to."
