BoxingScene.com’s Jake Donovan recently reported that a fight between WBC light heavyweight world champion Adonis Stevenson (27-1, 22KOs) and Thomas Williams Jr. (20-1, 14KOs) was close to being made for July 16th in Canada.

Last month, Williams knocked out Edwin Rodríguez in the second round of yet another exciting fight featuring the Maryland man.  Shortly after the article appeared on this website, Williams confirmed to BoxingScene.com that the fight is indeed on the verge of being secured.

“I’m 100% confident, I think it will happen.  It’s just a matter of when and where,” he said.

Williams has not been too impressed with Stevenson’s recent run of opponents, in particular his last title defence against Tommy Karpency.

“The guys he fought, the last guy, I hadn’t even heard of him.  The quality of guys he’s fighting, I haven’t heard of them and I’m a pretty big boxing fan, especially people in my division.  I keep up with that.

“It will be two punchers going at it, and we’ll see what happens but I believe I will come out on top”, Williams stressed.

“I respect anyone who gets in the ring but I don’t think he has much skill. He is strong with his left hand.

“He’s not slick, he doesn’t have a lot of athleticism, but he has a strong left hand, and that’s what he knocks people out with.  I haven’t seen much else.

“The fight will be in Canada, I believe, but that doesn’t bother me.”
