Abel Sanchez, trainer for WBA/IBO/IBF middleweight champion Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin (35-0, 32KOs), says there is no way his fighter will even consider dropping down to a catch-weight for a mandated bout with WBC middleweight champion Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez (46-1-1, 32KOs) in the fall.

Golovkin, who holds the WBC's interim title, is the mandatory challenger to Canelo.

Canelo is scheduled to defend his belt on May 7th against Amir Khan (31-3, 19KOs) at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

If Canelo wins, he will be ordered to fight Golovkin in the fall or face the possibility of losing his title.

Canelo is open to facing Golovkin - but only if the fight takes place at a catch-weight of 155-pounds.  Canelo's last four bouts, including his title win over Miguel Cotto last November, took place at 155. The upcoming fight with Khan is also taking place at 155.

The Mexican superstar does not consider himself to be a legitimate middleweight and refuses to fight GGG at the full division limit of 160-pounds. Golovkin, as the mandatory challenger to the belt, is under no obligation to agree to anything less than the division limit.

If the WBC strips Canelo, then Golovkin will become the full champion by default.

"Why does he want to give in to a diva, to somebody who's trying to change boxing?. We have 17 divisions already … 155 pounds is not a division. It's the principle of the thing. [Golovkin] won't come down one ounce. It's the 160-pound belt and that's what he's going to fight at. If [Canelo] won't, then he can leave the belt," Sanchez said.
